1. ABOUT THIS POLICY

RentEdge Pty Ltd ("we", "us", or "our") is committed to protecting the privacy of your personal information. This policy outlines how we collect, use, disclose, and protect your personal and credit-related information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Privacy (Credit Reporting) Code 2014.

Consent

By submitting an application, enquiry, or otherwise providing personal information to us, you consent to the collection, use, storage and disclosure of your personal and credit information in accordance with this Policy.

2. KINDS OF INFORMATION WE COLLECT

We collect information necessary to assess your application for rental or credit services, including:

  • Personal Identifiers: Name, date of birth, driver’s licence number, and contact details.

  • Financial Information: Assets, liabilities, income, employment history, and bank statements.

  • Credit Information: Information from credit reporting bodies (CRBs), including your credit score, repayment history, and any defaults or bankruptcies.

  • Sensitive Information: We only collect sensitive information (e.g., health data) with your explicit consent if it is relevant to your application.
    We do not collect sensitive information unless it is reasonably necessary for our services or required by law, and only with your consent or as otherwise permitted under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).

3. HOW WE COLLECT YOUR INFORMATION

We primarily collect information directly from you via our Application Form. We may also collect information from third parties such as:

  • Credit reporting bodies (e.g., Equifax, Experian, or Illion).

  • Your employer (to verify income) or your accountant.

  • Rental databases and public records.

Information about other Individuals 

If you provide us with personal information about another individual (such as a director, guarantor, spouse, or employee), you warrant that you are authorised to do so and that you have informed that individual of this Policy

4. PURPOSES OF COLLECTION AND USE

We use your information to:

  • Verify your identity and assess your creditworthiness.

  • Manage our business relationship and provide our services.

  • Comply with legal obligations under the Anti-Money Laundering and Counter-Terrorism Financing Act 2006.

  • Conduct internal data analytics to improve our services.

  • Where permitted by law, to communicate with you about our services or related offerings. You may opt out of receiving such communications at any time

5. DISCLOSURE OF INFORMATION

We may disclose your information to:

  • Credit Reporting Bodies: We may share your application details and any subsequent defaults with CRBs. This may include disclosure of information about overdue payments, defaults, or serious credit infringements where permitted by law.

  • Service Providers: IT support, legal advisors, and debt collection agencies.

  • Government Bodies: As required by law or for law enforcement purposes.

6. OVERSEAS DISCLOSURES

We generally store your data within Australia. Where we disclose personal information to overseas recipients, we take reasonable steps to ensure that the recipient does not breach the Australian Privacy Principles in relation to that information.

7. SECURITY AND RETENTION

We hold your information in secure electronic and physical formats. We retain personal and credit information only for as long as required for our business purposes and legal obligations. This generally includes retaining credit‑related and transaction records for at least seven (7) years, and Anti‑Money Laundering records for the period required by law. When information is no longer required, we securely destroy or de‑identify it.

7A: DATA BREACHES

We maintain procedures to identify and respond to suspected data breaches.

Where a data breach is likely to result in serious harm, we will comply with the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth), including notifying affected individuals and the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) as required.

8. ACCESS, CORRECTION, AND COMPLAINTS

  • Access & Correction: You have the right to request access to the personal information we hold about you and to ask for corrections if it is inaccurate.

  • This includes the right to access and correct credit information we hold about you, and to request that credit reporting bodies:

      • do not use your information for pre‑screening for direct marketing; or

      • place a fraud alert on your credit file where you believe you are a victim of fraud.

  • External Review: If you are unsatisfied with our response, you may contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) at www.oaic.gov.au.

9. ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATION

By providing your email address or other electronic contact details, you consent to us communicating with you electronically, including providing notices and documents, unless otherwise required by law.
